3 DEGREES

Martos Gallery is pleased to announce the summer group exhibition: 3 Degrees, with work by Bill Albertini, Curtis Mitchell and Mathieu Briand. The show runs from July 6 through September 15. A reception will be held on July 17 from 6PM to 8PM.

3 Degrees investigates the relation between the artist and art history, which becomes a medium, creating a new system of references by subordinating the art historical past to the reaction it creates.

Bill Abertini's McCracken Reel is a 4-minute silent 16mm film that travels through a 3D computer animated gallery displaying McCracken-like sculptures. The piece is a continuation of Albertini's exploration into memory's parallel universe; it's manipulated selectivity and revisionist history.

Mathieu Briand's Chocolate Grinder installation and LSD paintings belong to "La Psychotiere," the second chapter of an ongoing, year long, ten chapter project "Ubiq: A Mental Odyssey" taking place at Maisonneuve Gallery in Paris. The project deals with Mathieu's fascination with altered perceptions of reality and the cyclical course of time.

Curtis Mitchell's Clockwork is a reaction to Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, addressing the cathartic quality of violence. The piece combines video with an installation where the residue of performance is suggested.
