The 2011 Bridgehampton Biennial

Martos Gallery Summer Address: 112 Sagaponack Rd., Bridgehampton

Martos Gallery is pleased to announce The 2011 Bridgehampton Biennial, a group exhibition organized by Bob Nickas, opening on Saturday, July 9, from 2-8 PM, and continuing through Sept. 5, 2011. The exhibition will take place inside and on the grounds of an 1860 farmhouse located at 112 Sagaponack Road, in Bridgehampton, New York, and features works by thirty-eight artists, including:

John M Armleder, Richard Aldrich, Barry X Ball, Lisa Beck, Jules de Balincourt, Sascha Braunig, Graham Caldwell, Elaine Cameron-Weir, Anne Collier, Trisha Donnelly, Ryan Foerster, Wayne Gonzales, Stefan Gunn, Guyton\Walker, Rachel Harrison, Mary Heilmann, Matthew Higgs, Jacob Kassay, Bill Komoski, Louise Lawler, David Malek, Chris Martin, Justin Matherly, Joseph Montgomery, Olivier Mosset, Amy O'Neill, Virginia Overton, Mai-Thu Perret, Ben Schumacher, Davina Semo, Alan Shields, Keith Sonnier, Aaron Suggs, Josh Tonsfeldt, John Tremblay, Andra Ursuta, Dan Walsh, B. Wurtz

Many of the works will be site-specific, having been made expressly for the exhibition, or are being shown for the first time. The title of the show is meant as a playful nod to the large- scale international events which continue to multiply: there are, in point of fact, numerous biennials and triennials occurring from year to year. "The 2011 Bridgehampton Biennial" is intended as a one-time exhibition — as Nickas remarks, "just for the fun of it" — and it follows a show that he organized with Martos Gallery last summer, quoting Jack Smith, "Wait For Me at the Bottom of the Pool."
